15 houses at Westhayes is recommended for approval

Sunday, 06 November 2011 0 Comments by Claire

Planning officers are recommending approval for 15 houses on land next to Eastfield, West Hill.

Ottery St Mary Town Council had many concerns about the application, which is outside West Hill’s built up area boundary and many residents were worried about the impact of the application, particularly if the Blue Cedar Homes appeal for 50 houses is successful.  Both Westhayes and the land that Blue Cedar Homes are applying to build on, are accessed through Eastfield - a quiet cul-de- sac of around 22 houses.

We will not know the outcome of the Blue Cedar Homes appeal until later this month.

The Westhayes developers are applying to build 15 houses under EDDC’s ‘exceptions’ policy.  This can allow development outside a built up area boundary, providing that two thirds of the development consists of affordable housing.

I have a prejudicial interest in this application as my parents live nearby, which means I am unable to comment or represent residents views.

The Development Management Committee meeting, where councillors will determine the application, will take place on Tuesday 15 November, starting from 2pm.
