Cllr Brian Greenslade:  My statement

Thursday, 05 July 2018 1 Comment by Claire

I’ve just been interviewed by BBC Spotlight about Brian Greenslade, who was a former leader of Devon County Council.

Firstly, I fully support the recommendations of the standards committee. No one should behave in this way and no one should be subjected to this kind of unacceptable behaviour.

However, I should also add in fairness, that in my five years of working with Brian on the council’s Health and Adult Care Scrutiny Committee, that he has been a huge support to me, that he did his best to represent people’s views and in many instances, was my only ally when I was making proposals in the public interest, mostly on trying to prevent the loss of community hospital beds and other health services.

I also hope that the recommendations from the standards committee mean that anyone else at Devon County Council who has experienced this kind of unacceptable behaviour will have the confidence to report it and that it will be dealt with appropriately.

The piece will be broadcast on tonight’s programme, BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Having seen the piece on Spotlight I just hope that the Police take this seriously and we don’t get another cover up. It’s a great pity that the Standards Board for England was abolished as their sanctions would have been far more severe. He should resign immediately we don’t need those sorts of people as Councillors taking Council Tax Payers money in allowances and expenses. Odd that’s he’s gone abroad. Now where have I heard that before?.
