Seven weeks on and several chasings later ... Lloyds Bank pull the shutters down

Thursday, 21 June 2018 1 Comment by Claire

It has been seven weeks since my first email to the chief executive of Lloyds Bank, asking for an urgent meeting with the area manager about the planned closure of Ottery’s branch in October.

Several chasings later and one or two holding messages from bank staff, I have got absolutely nowhere.

It is very disappointing that Lloyds, which is planning to close the only remaining bank left in the town, has decided to display arrogance and high handedness in this way.

Along with many other local councillors I didn’t even receive a letter about the closure, I had to read it on Ottery Matters Facebook page instead.

Back in April, I asked for an urgent meeting. We are now in June and soon the summer holidays will be upon us, leaving only a short run down to the proposed closure.

I really do think that an hour’s meeting with me is the least I can expect as Ottery’s Devon County Councillor. Ignoring an elected representative in this way is just disrespectful and unacceptable.

I cannot believe the arrogance of this Chief Exec. The least you would expect for him to have done is to alert you to the closure notice and offer an opportunity to meet to discuss this measure they have taken. To not even acknowledge your contact is not only rude and disrespectful but down right obscene. Surely his ivory tower doesn’t mean this bank should lose respect for those customers including me. It is not always convenient to go to Honiton for banking. You’re right with what you stated in a previous post in that if you go somewhere else to do your banking that is where you’ll spend your money. Ottery has so many new housing projects and businesses and trying to attract more businesses without proper banking facilities is just ludicrous.

I do hope you keep fighting for us all, even those folk who don’t really recognise that Lloyds has issued a closure notice.

Thank you.
